Always Keep a Piece of Change Playa

This month is turning out to be my most profitable month since 08/06; I attribute it primarily to the following:
  • exercise
  • setting goals
  • tilt avoidance
  • open communication with talented poker friends
  • focus
  • outside hobbies (rock climbing, composing soundtrack etc.)
  • being a super talented bad ass

I Hate My Job Post of the Year...

[originally posted on 3/12/07]
If life was the Legend of Zelda...

The boomerang would be your best friends. They help you stop enemies, they make getting money and hearts faster and easier, and if managed properly - always come back when you need them the most.

Women would be the pieces of Triforce. Seems like the point of life is to get them, but the quest is more fun than the acquisition. Scattered about the world they seem to hang out mostly with monsters and their flashing lights are pleasing to the eye.

Your father would be the old man. He tells you a bunch of stuff, some of it useful, some of it nonsense, some of it obvious, and some of it insightful, but really you ignore pretty much all of it just to hit him with the boomerang and run before the fireballs get you.

The fairy would be your mother. She pops up when you would least expect her. It's tough to survive without frequent visits and when you do get to spend quality time with her she surrounds you with love and energy.

Your penis would be the wooden sword. You find it about 5 seconds into the game. You use it way too often. It eventually becomes second nature in battle and toward the end of the game you tend to lose interest in it for more mysterious toys.

Poker would be the red candle. It's fun, addictive, you occasionally come into free money with it, its use occasionally costs you, it takes time to learn how to use it properly, and if you get too close it will eventually burn you alive.

New Hobby

I've been several times before, but it wasn't until yesterday that I decided to make rock climbing a weekly activity. It's pretty fun exercise and the gym is barely 3 miles from my condo. Trying my best to get my mind and body in shape to sit atop the poker world.

Building Blocks for Success

When I was first starting making some decent money in poker naturally I tried to envision my future as a professional gambler and any issues that would arise. Does this have any longevity? Where would I keep all my cash? Will my mother still love me? The last thing that I figured would be a big issue was jealousy. Nonetheless, ever since WSOP '06 it has been a tough roadblock for me. The deceiving factor here is that if one of my good friends went on to direct an award winning film I would be ecstatic; or if one of my friends went on to cure cancer I couldn't be happier for them; but if my poker friends crush the tables and make a killing while I am struggling, this is just too personal. The biggest issue that comes up isn't even a pure form of jealousy. For me what always seems to bog me down is that I see my poker friends doing well at higher limits and I begin to get frustrated with my progress. I start to force it and make more moves to establish my worth. I over extend my bankroll to move up in limits faster. And I put this unnecessary pressure on myself to catch up, which in the long run only really hurts me.

Open Challenge

I am going to come out and say it, I am one of the best Scrabulous (knock off of Scrabble) players on facebook. I am undefeated and looking for formidable opponents. Let me know if you want any action.
