What Would You Do?

I will do my best to recreated the situation...

A satellite for a 12k package into the WSOP ME. 57 people get seats and there are 58 people left on 7 tables. Your current table has two big stacks that are stealing nearly every hand. The other tables are giving plenty of walks, some medium stacks are taking bad gambles, and others are folding into the seat who can. Blinds are 2k/4k[500] and you have just shy of 20k in 2nd position. There are currently 5-7 shorter stack who are further from the blinds and about 8 other stacks between 25k and 35k. If you fold the next three hands you will be down to 12k and be around the shortest stack, in which case most likely a majority of the short stacks will wait till you double or bust to risk their stack. If you double up this hand you will get the seat 99.9% Your jam is getting called everytime here so the math boils down to do you think you are over 85% to get a seat if you fold this hand...

NY Times

"The biggest potential change would be in the United States, where, perhaps within days, Representative Barney Frank, Democrat of Massachusetts, is expected to introduce legislation aimed at overturning the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act."

I would like to take this moment to announce my semi retirement from live tournaments. I didn't want to speak from emotions and announce this immediately following my bust out from LAPT, but my opinion has changed very little since then. You are supposed to have fun when you play poker tournaments. I must be missing something. The only exception to my retirement may just be the WSOP ME.

In other poker life news I have re-reached my previously high water mark in terms of bankroll again. It seems like every time I get to this point I stop caring about the money and recklessly gamble my way back down to the danger zone. My plan to stay hungry is to cut back hours and increase game selection. I will look towards music, art and the gym to fill the void.

Socially I am really starting to enjoy my current stride. I am learning how to diligently balance my time between gf, friends, and family. But I guess all good things must come to an end. The current game plan is to experiment with the feasibility of a long distance relationship. Come less than two months from now I may find myself taking monthly trips to Chicago.

Phrase of the trip

Day 1 pro - A professional gambler who specializes in getting knocked out in the first day of a big live tournament.

I am flying down to Argentina today to play the Mar Del Plata Latin American Poker Tour stop. This will be my second live tournament main event this month. I am not sure how strong my edge really is in these things, but even a broken analog clock is right twice a day.

I finally got rake back on my Full Tilt account this week. It's a huge monkey off my back and it feels like a huge score. Upon first glance it can seem trivial, but over the next 20 years it could potentially be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Ironically I have logged nearly no time on the tables this week.

My Day

  • 212pm wake up and surf the web/pay my bills online
  • 347pm drive over to the gf's house and give the scooter a tune up and take it out for a joy ride
  • 445pm play a pick up soccer game at candler park with friends
  • 612pm walk back to gf's house and manage to break off the key in the door knob whilst locking up - spent the next hour+ trying to get it out and buying a new knob that didn't fit - nothing worked
  • 837pm shower and watch seinfeld while playing catan online
  • 956pm play 5 hands of poker before the game quickly dies
  • 959pm watch curb your enthusiasm and eat dinner
  • 1141pm get my exercise on down at the gym
  • 108am read some of aristotle's nicomachean ethics
  • 346am blog about my day and go to sleep

I have barely played any cards the past ten days. I haven't seen my girlfriend in nearly two weeks. I have been going to the gym regularly. I couldn't be happier to be out of foxwoods. I leave for LAPT in Argentina in 4 days. I have yet to cash in a 5k+ event.

I played day 1 foxwoods main event today. Not really any interesting hands. Busted with JJ v KK on a 3458 for 50bb.
Stuck in Connecticut the next 4 days.
