...well that's definitely a profitable way to play it...

I think he called your flop bet with a weaker flush cuz he was scared of the nuts. So when the Ad hits he figured his flush was good and maybe put you on AA and figured you'd pay off the pot bet.

i cheated and looked at ptr

I know you call and it's good, but the only way it should be good is either against a complete nutjob or because of some severe metagame. Honestly, it should rarely be good though. Definitely not enough to be profitable in the long run imo unless you are withholding some insightful information that changes things.

Gross. Definitely shoot the hostage.

I agree with Bored... he can easily put u on aces here because of your preflop backraise... and a caller on the flop usually means a set or a weak flush... He probably figured u'd call that bet on the river since he can put u on a top set here... but the fact that its a huge bet may make it a little fishy...

I don't know why so many people think you need to have severe metagame or for him to be a wackjob in order to call here.
My thoughts are this:
-You can see 5 diamonds (4 on the board and 1 in your hand) so hes not likely to have a flush.

-It is not completely unlikely for him to have a straight given the odds you gave him to draw on the flop, but I think it is unlikely he goes for a psb value town on the river with a straight.

-Also, if it is so obvious to the entire world you have aces, then I imagine he is more likely to find a lead on the turn with his flushes than on the river, because he knows you won't fold. Generally, I would assume he doesn't want you to draw to your boat for free.

So, when he just puts you in on the river you gotta ask yourself, why did he do that? And it seems like at least 60% of the time the answer is gonna be, because he wants you to fold. So call.... Anyways that's my version as a revisionist historian.

making a decision w/out info surrounding this hand is damn hard. since you are a self proclaim "PTR nut", i take it that you did your homework on this guy. after some research of mine on your opponent and looking at the hand in question (yes i cheated), i can kinda see why you made a great call
That was the biggest pot against him so far by about $10K. it also seems like ave. pot he plays are about $8K. So its strange that he would shove on river to make pot times more than average. is this the reason why you called? would a bet like $5180 on river make you fold or harder to detect? or maybe i'm just talking out if my a-hole :)
